Des Franks
It is with great sadness that the band have to say goodbye to another friend this year. Des Franks the band’s president passed away in September this year during a stay in hospital.
Apart from being a playing member of the band for a great many years Des was also one of our greatest supporters and we are both grateful and indebted to him for his loyal support and generosity. Whenever we were fundraising, Des was always there to help, either by selling quiz forms, raffle tickets or other money raising ventures, or by his own generous personal funding to help us buy new instruments. Indeed without the Support and backing from Des it is unlikely that the current band would have reformed some 40 years ago, Des showed tremendous dedication to the band even after he stopped playing, indeed many of the early photographs available on the web site were collated by Des. He was a genuine friend in need and will be sorely missed.
Although touched with sadness the band were proud to play at his funeral, we hope the choice of music including a couple of favourites most notably Moon River would have met with his approval.
