Can you tell us about any of the people in the photo ?  If so please get in touch.

As we approach the 100th anniversary of this photo it would be great to find out a bit more about the original line up of the band.

Stan Cayzer

Archibald Stanley Cayzer

In 2021, nearly 100 years after this photo was taken, the band were contacted by the great grandson of Mr Stan Cayzer who had seen the above photo while researching his family tree. As a result we found out a little bit more about Stan :-

I found your details on the Cranbrook Town Band website. I came across the website while researching my family tree: my great grandfather lived in Cranbrook in the 1920’s. There’s a picture on your website archive homepage which I believe includes my great grandfather, though I believe his name has been wrongly transcribed as Stan Hayes (Now corrected) (his name was Archibald Stanley Cayzer, but seems to have used the name Stan/Stanley – the Parish Life magazine published this photo in 2017 but referenced him as H S Cayzer).

There’s also another photo of Stan on your site (https://www.cranbrooktownband.org.uk/1926/01/01/1926-cranbrook-town-prize-band/) this time correctly named, but I think the year must be wrong as he died in 1925 (perhaps 1926 is the year it was published or the band photo for the year).

I (and indeed my Father and Uncle) never knew Stan (he died at the age of 42 when his own children, including my grandfather, were still young) so it’s been great to find these photos of him. We never knew he was in the town band (or indeed in the Cranbrook Operatic Society!).

The attached report of his death in the local newspaper mentions his role in both. Unfortunately, I haven’t inherited Stan’s musical abilities!

Best wishes

Robert Cayzer
