A lot of children probably haven’t even heard a brass band before, let alone stood in front of one and sang.
But that’s the opportunity Academy Stage School members have enjoyed as they rehearsed for their concert on Saturday, February 25, in the theatre at Homewood School.
This show will bring together 55 children aged 6 to 15, with the 30-piece brass band.
The evening promises some wonderful music and brilliant songs from The Beatles, David Bowie, Queen, Witney Houston, Olly Murs, Jessie J, Les Mis and many more.
The Academy will also be singing two nine-minute meddleys – the first a tribute to Robbie Williams and the second a selection of Disney Songs.
The Concert was conceived by Academy principals, David and Jill Waters, originally to mark the 10 anniversay of the school, but other things got in the way, so here it is, a year late.
David Waters said: “We always try to be unpredictable, with our audiences never quite sure what each show will be. We do a mix of schowcases and original musicals, and original drama. In January we presented ‘Lilliput Cove’ – a full-length play inspired by the children’s own stories and improvisations. The Academy is unique in providing this kind of oppotunity for young actors.”
The Academy teaches singing, dancing and acting to children, every Saturday morning at the Snden Theatre studios in Tenterden. The children need no experience or qualifications and the school is open to all-comers.
