Cranbrook Town Band and Cranbrook Choral Society combined once again to present a Christmas concert in Cranbrook’s St. Dunstan’s Church on Saturday, December 16th. The church was delightfully decorated and jam packed with a congregation looking forward to a festive mix of traditional and some “less traditional” Christmas music.
Both groups featured a number of their own pieces and then combined to perform for the congregational carols as well as a new arrangement for band and choir of Handel’s ‘Zadok the Priest’. After the interval, where many mince pies were consumed by audience, band and choir alike, all kinds of Christmas hats, jumpers and decorations made an appearance to increase the festive atmosphere even more. The audience were able to join in with a fun rendition of the Twelve Days of Christmas and yet more carols, arranged to show-off the choir to its full extent, rarely heard verses and descants were all superbly sung by the Choral Society accompanied by band and audience.
Well done to all concerned and thanks to Ben Bishop for depping on kit percussion. The choir sang beautifully throughout and the band played superbly, all those hours of extra practice on Zadok the Priest and Carols in 5 sharps obviously paid off ! What more could anyone ask for ?
What an amazing concert to be a part of last night!
These were the words of our MD, Ian Lanceley, who continued, “What a smashing year it’s been. A tour to Belgium along with several really high quality concerts alongside some excellent playing at our usual bookings. We have a settled, happy and hard working band which has contributed to massively to the above. We also have a Training Band and a Foundation Band which are both really prospering. Well done to all concerned and let’s hope 2024 is at least as good”
