Sharon McCallum

Cornet/Principal Cornet (1995-2010)

About

Sharon joined the band when she moved into the Cranbrook area with her husband Jerry in 1995. Playing Principal Cornet for much of the early years with the band, Sharon later moved further down the solo cornet line.

Sharon's business was musical instrument repairs and the bands inventory benefitted greatly from her experienced hands.

Sharon was a fine soloist and the band accompanied her throughout her tenure on a number of pieces but perhaps best remembered was the duet "Sandpaper Ballet", ably partnered by Colin Batt on Trombone. The later stages of the piece saw each player moving from their instrument to a sandpaper block, highly unusual and very effective in a concert.

Sharon left the band in May of 2010 when she upped sticks and moved to Wales. A skilled instrument repairer and cornetist, Sharon has played with a number of bands since leaving Cranbrook and has supported scaba (the Southern Counties Amateur Bands Association) events with her trade stand for many years. Sharon was invited to become a Vice President of the association in 2019.
