Mark Hayman

First Horn (1984-Current)

About

While at school Mark saw two of his friends playing in a classroom recital, he was so taken with the performance that he started playing within weeks. Despite his friends giving up only a short while later he continued under the tutelage of Nick Carter who was also the town band Musical Director at the time. He fondly recalls childhood Saturday mornings playing in a 10 piece band run by the Kent Music School before joining the town band just as Nick Carter retired.

Mark has played various positions within the band, starting when he was twelve on third cornet, working his way up to front row solo cornet for several years before a quick foray onto Soprano, eventually moving to Tenor Horn where he has been since, some 35+ years later.

He is renown for his fortissimo playing and enjoys contesting as it often involves a much bigger challenge than practicing concert music. Away from banding he enjoys web design and has managed the bands web site since its creation and loves spending time out side walking or gardening when the weather permits.
