Gareth Burrows

Solo Cornet (2018-Current)

About

Gareth began learning the trumpet at age 11 and, like so many Welsh players, was immediately also given a cornet and embraced by the Welsh brass banding movement. He played trumpet in various wind bands and the North Wales Orchestra, and cornet for various Welsh contesting bands as a youth, eventually becoming principal of Llandudno town band at 15 and leading the band at several successful contests.  He won several solo, duet and quartet contests before eventually giving it all up to go to University.

With work and life getting in the way, Gareth didn’t play for 25 years. He picked up the cornet again in 2016, playing front row and then principal for Heathfield Silver band. He is extremely proud to be the player that performs the Last Post for Cliffe at the Lewes Bonfire celebrations each year, as well as several village events through the bonfire and marching season. He helped Cranbrook out at an event in 2018 and never left, and has been playing on the front row ever since in addition to helping other bands out when he can.

Gareth has a 6 year old daughter who has just been given her first (plastic) cornet.
