Robin joined the band way back in 1990 playing 1st Baritone for many years.

When the band received their lottery grant for new instruments in 1997, one of the provisos for doing so was to create a junior band and it was Robin who had recently retired as a teacher who started going into primary schools and giving brass lessons to pupils. Shortly after he started getting these youngsters performing in groups at the schools and in 1998 the junior/training band started.

During his time with band Robin made the transition from Baritone to Bass and continued to be a committed member of the band, hardly missing a rehearsal or concert unless it was to go sailing around the coast in his boat (his other big passion).

Robin continued as the junior band master until 2020 when he retired from both the junior band and the main band as a player. In his term running the band he enabled many children to try a brass instrument and helped many to develop a lifelong passion and skill. Many members of the junior band went on to play in the main band over the years.
